James Fraher is a professional photographic artist with a special emphasis on documentary and portrait photography. James is gifted with the ability to portray people with an honesty that communicates their integrity and beauty. In 2010, James was commissioned to photograph Sligo Peace & Reconciliation Action Plan events. The subsequent photographs were used in a variety of ways for documentary, presentation, editorial and media purposes. James, originally from Chicago, has spent the past 35 years visiting and living in Ireland. He is sensitive to diversity/race, peace and non-violence issues. In the early 1970's while at university, James studied non-violence and was exposed to the writings and biographies of Mohatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr. James became a declared conscientious objector and actively protested the war in Vietnam. Through the aid and advice of The American Friends Service Committee, a Quaker organization, James received a deferment from military service and was able to continue with his photography studies. In the United States, Fraher is known for his photography of African-Americans especially in the areas of blues and zydeco music both in rural and urban settings. His book, The Blues is a Feeling: Voices and Visions of African-American Blues Musicians, tells the story of the blues in photographs and interviews made by the author over a twelve year period. It is with compassion and a sensitive eye that brings James Fraher to projects that relate to people, place and peace. For further information contact: James Fraher Ireland:
